Nikita Filatov Biography

Nikita Filatov is a Russian hockey player, born on May 25 1990 in Moscow, Russian. He was playing for Moscow CSKA-2 before being drafted 6th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL. He was also drafted by Sudbury Wolves from the Ontario Hockey League (junior league). He recently signed his first professional NHL contract with the Blue Jackets.

In Russia, during the 2007-2008 season, Filatov scored 32 goals in only 34 games and added 34 assists for an impressive 66 points tally. He also had 90 minutes of penalty. He played in the 2007 and 2008 junior U18 World Championship, helping Russian to a gold medal in 2007 and a bronze medal in 2008.

Filatov was considered the top European prospects for the 2008 draft and was indeed the first European to be selected when Columbus announced his name as their first round pick. Fluent in English, he’s looking forward to playing in the NHL. Many consider him as the best offensive player to have come out of that draft along with Stamkos.
